Species Accounts, Images and Audio

This section is the heart of the site - a comprehensive, multimedia-rich guide to the diversity and natural history of the frogs of the Malay Peninsula. There are currently 98 species in 30 genera and 5 families in the database that are indicated as occuring in the Malay Peninsula (though the actual number of species in this region is almost definitely much higher), and this section of the site is the way to learn about, appreciate, have a look, or listen to them.

There are a number of ways to get to the content you are interested in. If you have a particular species in mind, you can get to its sections quickly by using the Species Index below. This provides a complete listing of all the Malay Peninsula species recognized by this site, and has links that will take you immediately to their accounts, images, and (when it is eventually implemented), recordings of their calls.

You can also use the systematically-hierarchized menu on the left sidebar, which is available on all pages of the Species section of this site, to access accounts, images and audio [not implemented yet! - jeet] of the species of interest. If you cannot find the species that you want through these means, it is possible that this site is using a different taxonomic or nomenclatural arrangement than the one you are using, or the one used by your sources, and thus the species is hiding under a different name. In this case, you might want to look at the Species Synonym Index, or, alternatively, try searching the site for it. Of course, the Species Synonym Index is also useful if you have a synonym or species name combination that you want more information on.

If you do not have a particular species in mind, you may want to simply browse through the Illustrated Species Image Index, which presents all the species image galleries under one roof, so to speak. This is also a good place to start if you have an idea of what a particular species of frog looks like, but do not know its name - perhaps you can use some of the images in the Illustrated Species Image Index to help you identify the frog.

If, after having tried the Species Index, the Species Synonym Index, as well as the site search options, you still cannot find the species that you want, then it might be the case that this particular species just does not occur in the Malay Peninsula! Or, to be more precise, it is not indicated in my database as occuring in the Malay Peninsula. If you feel that this omission is an error, please feel free to let me know! You can check the distribution and range (as well as a whole bunch of other stuff) of the species you have in mind at the Amphibian Species of the World website. If you cannot find the species at the Amphibian Species of the World website, then the species has not yet been described by human beings, or you have got the name wrong!
